With Earth Love:Less Known Uses for The Incredible Onion
The Sock Onion is a ‘modern-day’ version of the Ayurvedic poultice.
Gypies and native remedies use onions in a poultice in order to draw out infection and help clear bodily congestion (chest, throat, swelling).
Modern scientific study has subsequently shown that onions are antibacterial
and the sulfuric compounds are antioxidant and als aid in cardiovascular health.
How to Make an Onion Poultice
2 organic onions
1/4 cup grated organic ginger, optional
Grind up onions and ginger in a food processor
(this will bring out some of the water). Then, spread the mixture
onto a washable scarf to tie around your neck, directly touching the skin.
Or, put into a sock to sleep overnight to draw out toxins.
For the chest, tie mixture into a dish towel and place onto your chest
just after the shower when your skin is warm and permeable.
