What Hypnosis is not: mind control, sleep, losing control, or magic.

I was born in the late 60’s, so if someone said the word “hypnotize” to me, I had an immediate vision of Fred Flintstone, all bug-eyed, sleep walking around his house looking for a bronto burger! Or, maybe a creepy episode of the Adams Family. Neither are true, although the Fred Flintstone version got one thing right, you can walk around and crave food during hypnosis, if that is what comes up. In truth, whatever comes up is true for YOU. The mind/spirit knows how to heal itself just like cut knows how to form a scab.

      What is hypnosis then?

Have you ever done a meditation? If you have, then you will understand that the only difference between a hypnotic state and a deep meditation is that during hypnosis, the therapist is there to talk about what comes up with you, help you to process it, and suggest better options depending upon your needs.

If you have never done a meditation, please look below at the chart. Right now, your rain is in the beta stage. You are alert, aware, and reading this article. Perhaps later you will take a long drive in the car, and during that drive, your mind may begin to wander, or, certain thoughts and feeling may enter your mind when an old song comes on the radio. This alpha. You are switching between alpha and theta here, which is why you always need to stay alert while driving.

After your long day of work, or whatever it is that you do (because being a mom is also hard and honorable work), you decide to go to bed. When you close your eyes for a few moments, you begin to “see pictures”. This is the entering of the theta state. This is the deeper and most preferable stage of hypnosis where you can make the best impression and subconscious changes.

In both of these states, you can hear, talk, and know if you need to use the bathroom. You can cry, laugh, and even censor information if you want to. Instead of being “knocked out”, you are in a state of intense focus. Whatever pictures come to you are you mind/body/spirit messages that we can interpret, dissect and work with. Another effect of hypnosis is something called an “abreaction”. You may notice that the dull ache you have always had in your neck is intensified, or you may get a heavy feeling in your chest or belly. These are GOOD because it is under hypnosis where you can release them. What are they, you wonder? They are pent up emotions. We all have them, and hypnosis is an excellent way to process them and send them off, with that result that you will feel lighter when you are done. If an emotion is really stuck, there are also special acupuncture points that can be tapped on to make release a lot easier Hypnosis feel really good.

Many people will say, “I made all of that up! It was my imagination. Why did I think of that? I haven’t thought of that in years!” And the reason is that you actually have that “stuff” in your thought field, and your mind/body/spirit knew what needed to show to you in order to heal something. It’s quite awesome, actually.

What can I expect from a Hypnosis Session:

An average hypnosis session can take between one hour and an hour and a half. It can be done in a chair or lying down, but you need to be as comfortable as possible because relaxation is the key.

What is the difference between Stage Hypnosis and Therapeutic Hypnosis?

Stage hypnosis is for fun. Those people on the stage wanted to be hypnotized, if they didn’t they would not have volunteered, or would have gotten well out of the way and scope of the hypnotist. You cannot be hypnotized against your will. These are fun personalities that want to take part in the entertainment.

A therapeutic form of hypnosis is a deep state of focus and review according to the client’s needs.

      What happens?

All hypnosis is self-hypnosis. You are in Charge. No one can hypnotize you if you do not allow it. So, come with a positive will, and the results will be magnificent.

After you are gently walked into the theta state, you will begin to see, hear and feel different things. Everyone is different. Many people cry during their first session. This is normal and very good for you because it is a release of something that’s been stagnant for a very long time. Some people review their childhood, other people go into other lifetimes in different bodies. Some people actually go to other planets. Yes. And there is nothing to ever be embarrassed about because it’s all quite magnificent and individual.

What can you treat with hypnosis?

Addictions, phobias, learn more about yourself, break energetic chords with bad relationships. Release energetic blockages, enhance performance, learn more about yourself balance your emotions.

How many hypnosis sessions are recommended?

This is entirely up to you. Sometimes one session will give you the information you need. Other times you begin to “peel the onion” and may want to come back. In any case, hypnosis is a natural state and a healthy experience.

    • Reiki Therapy

What is Reiki? Reiki is a spiritual healing art with its roots in Japanese origin. The word Reiki comes from the Japanese word (Rei) which means “Universal Life” and (Ki) which means “Energy”. Reiki is not affiliated with any particular religion or religious practice. It is not massage nor is it based on belief or suggestion. It is a subtle and effective form of energy-work using spiritually guided life force energy which is projected from the hands of the practitioner, who has trained to recognize this field.

Reiki is the life energy that flows through all living things. It is the force that makes a tiny fragile seedling force open a hard seed and come to life; the gentle buzzing sound you can hear in a quiet room. It is “The Field” that connects all living things. It is accessible to all of us, and just like people can train their voices to sing in the opera, or paint a beautiful picture, a Reiki practitioner simply trains to learn how to access this field and use it therapeutically.

      Reiki and the Mainstream:

I am excited to say that there have been recent academic articles written about Reiki, as well as physicians, such as the famous Dr. Oz, speaking in its favor. I have been practicing Reiki for years, knowing it was valid, and because I trust myself, and knew that a very grand thing was occurring during the practice, I continued my work despite doubt and cynicism. Finally, Reiki is beginning to be given it’s due credit and a wonderful addition to a good healing and body care regimen.

      What are the Benefits?

A Reiki session can help ease tension and stress and can help support the body to facilitate an environment for healing on all levels – physical, mental, and emotional. It is sort of like getting a massage “from the inside out”. A session is pleasant and relaxing and is often utilized for one’s personal wellness. The essence of Reiki is an energetic clearing. By bringing the force through the body, energetic blockages are released. Often, physical pain and ailments are lessened or greatly propelled along a healing process. Mental anguish is also tempered. Just like therapy helps bit by bit, Reiki is like the peeling of an onion and each time you receive a treatment, you become more clear each time.

My Personal Way of Practicing Reiki:

An education changes one’s viewpoint, language, and way of looking at the world. Since my first training in Reiki more than ten years ago, I have learned numerous other healing arts such as; Reconnective Healing (www.thereconnection.com), Star Healing, Integrated Energy Therapy (www.integratedenergytherapy.net), Theta Healing, EMF Balancing (www.emfonline.com), Hypnosis and some acupressure tapping. These different ways of approaching the thought field and the healing energies have molded and matured my approach and experience of this work, and made me very confident at what I do.

Indeed, Reiki is a channel of the Life Force, but just like we all carry an intelligent Creator in all each of us, each one of us is still unique. This is why you might feel a little different which each person you receive Reiki from. Just like each one of your friends has a special gift they bestow upon you, each practitioner is going to be a little bit different. The important thing is to trust your own intuition. Does this person feel right? If the answer is YES, then go with it. If not, there is nothing wrong with that. This is not a competition. We have all been gifted with an intuition that should be used and not ignored.

What is a Reiki Session Like?

A Reiki session can be done anywhere (even long distance!) but a typical Reiki treatment takes place on a massage table. Like a massage, different parts of the body will be touched, although very lightly. There are also times that work will be done without touching the body, completely in the auric field.
This is a wonderful time to clear your mind, and leg go, just like in a traditional massage. But, as I said before, this is energetic rather than physical and must be experienced in order to be understood .
