Inside this card is a packet of seeds for planting along with the following information on the left-side panel.
- Some Sunflowers for YouAfter the Chernobyl disaster in 1986, sunflowers were
planted for their ability to extract toxic ingredients
from the soil, such a lead, arsenic,cesium-137,
and strontium-90.
Sunflower seeds are high in linoleic acid (an essential
fatty acid), and also an excellent source of dietary
fiber, protein, vitamins E & B, potassium, magnesium,
iron, phosphorus, selenium, calcium and zinc. In
addition, they are rich in cholesterol lowering
phytosterols. But most of all, they brighten any landscape
because they always appear as if they are smiling.
How to Plant Your Sunflower Seeds
Method 1: Sow directly outdoors 1 inch deep in spring
Method 2: Soak your seeds in water that just covers
the top of the seed for about one week or until you start seeing
a small sprout. Check daily to refill if water evaporates.
Get a biodegradable seed starter cup and fill it with
fluffy dirt. Fill with water until moist and push one
seed per cup into the soil, about 1 inch down.
Keep in a sunny area and water every other day until the seedling sprouts. Then transplant in full sun when the plant is big and strong
enough to recover from bunny and bird munching.
(about six inches tall). ENJOY!
