Mint - Mentha Spicata
History: Originating in the Asian and Mediterranean region, mint is a symbol of freshness and hospitality, often used as an air freshener, bath scent, or for its medicinal value in cooking. Mint was named after Minthe, the mythical Greek river nymph who had a wonderful aroma that people could always smell when she was near.

Nutritional Value: Mint is rich in vitamins A and C and also contains smaller amounts of Vitamin B2, and essential minerals such as calcium, manganese, copper, iron and potassium.

Healing Properties:
A fresh cup of mint leaves steeped in hot water can do wonders for the stomach. Also the chemical compound menthol is well known for its healing properties for the chest and respiratory system. Menthol is the beautiful refreshing aroma of mint.

Other Benefits:
- A powerful antioxidant, blood cleanser, and also inhibits fungus.
-Relieves the symptoms of colds, flu, allergies and combats
bad breath.
-Mint Tea provides a cooling sensation to the skin and can help to treat minor burns, skin irritations and acne.

Planting:
Getting mint to grow is never a problem. It is tolerant of both shade and drought. Stopping it from taking over your garden could be a challenge. It can be invasive so be sure to plant in a spot where you want a full ground cover, or have lots of space.
